Project Administration
Becht Engineering supplies Project Management for construction projects. This service can be a comprehensive oversight beginning in the planning stages and carrying through to project implementation or any portion of these procedures. A list of stages in a typical project which require competent management is as shown below. Depending on the client's situation, our work in each of these areas can range from guidance counseling to hands-on implementation.
Construction phase administration was initiated by the firm in 1965 when we constructed a multimillion dollar fiberglass manufacturing plant which we engineered in North Carolina. This was a natural progression for the Senior Principal, Charles Becht, as founder of the firm, since he previously had served as a construction superintendent for the Austin Company and as Chief Engineer in charge of construction for two major corporations.
Our firm has continued to be in charge of major construction work including design/build projects. We provide a personalized service; your project will be assigned to one of our Project Managers who will be your direct contact at all times. Additionally, through the benefit of the size of our organization there is always a redundancy in personnel.
Our construction management methodology is very disciplined. There are no informal meetings and no procedures or work changes without full written needs, assessments, costs, and approvals by the responsible professional and the client. Complete records of all procedures are made, written minutes submitted, and daily records of all conditions and work-in-progress are made.
Staffing is subject to the client's needs and its preferred arrangements with the design professionals. We can supply continuous on-site personnel or a less intense involvement based on the progress of the work, complexity of the progress, and client needs.
Becht Engineering will provide purchasing, expediting and shop inspection services, acting as agents for the client, to facilitate the contractual aspect of the transactions.
Becht Engineering will prepare a list of proposed bidders and review this list with the client. Inquiries for bids on equipment, materials and supplies will be analyzed in technical and financial terms and recommendations made for client approval. Purchase orders will be issued on the client's behalf and expediting of deliveries and inspection of the quality of workmanship and material used will be carried out to the extent appropriate.
Project cost will be applied at the beginning of design and followed through until construction is completed.
A project budget estimate, developed from initial client data and Becht in-house cost data base will serve as the project cost control vehicle with actual costs and performance regularly monitored against budget cost items. A monthly cost monitoring report will provide an early indication of possible overruns on both in-house office man-hour cost and the costs of materials and equipment.
As design advances, material take-offs and firm price bids for equipment and construction trades will provide the basis for development of a definitive cost estimate, which will give a clear indication of the final cost of the whole project.
